There are several myths surrounding memory care, the specialized attention for individuals with memory impairments, such as Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. It’s important to debunk these myths to promote a better understanding of memory care by providing accurate information to help families find the right level of care at the right time for their loved ones.

Living in Memory Care Neighborhoods does not take away the independence of those living with dementia. We encourage our residents to do as much for themselves as they can. Our staff is trained to cue residents to perform daily tasks essential for preserving their independence as long as possible. Our Neighborhood is never boring or impersonal. We strive to create an environment that honors individuality and provides many opportunities for engagement. We encourage our residents to assist in the life of the Neighborhood by providing opportunities for purposeful and meaningful engagement.
Unfortunately, dementia is increasing in younger ages. As evolution changes, we must adapt. Dementia doesn’t discriminate; therefore, we must not either. Making the move to Memory Care is a difficult process, but most often we find our residents improve once they move into our Neighborhood where they are surrounded by people who are trained to meet their needs. The power of engagement can bring someone with dementia back out of their shell, giving them more opportunities to socialize and thrive among their peers. While there is always an adjustment period, we set our residents up for success by providing them with a safe and comfortable environment where they can have all their needs met.
As the Memory Care Director at Vitalia Solon, I hope this information helps provide a better picture of an Arrow Memory Care Neighborhood. It is important to gather accurate data to dispel myths and make informed decisions regarding memory care for yourself or a loved one. Arrow Senior Living Memory Care Neighborhoods are full of life and joy. They are a place where individuals living with dementia can thrive and feel purposeful. Interested in learning more?
