Vitalia Active Adult Community – Solon Demonstrates Acts of Kindness During Be Kind to Humankind Week

Kindness is defined as doing something toward yourself and others, motivated by genuine desire to make a positive difference. Kindness is shown to increase self-esteem and mood, decrease stress levels, improve relationships, slow aging, and is accompanied by emotional warmth. Research shows kindness and mental health are deeply connected.

We at VITALIA Active Adult Community® – Solon know that one act of kindness can lead to many more. Kindness is contagious and it begins with you!

To me, kindness means treating people how I want to be treated. Some ways to encourage kindness and put a smile on someone’s face are to start with “please,” end with “thank you,” and always make eye contact.

We can help to inspire others to spread kindness by giving each other praise when we see kindness. An example of kindness I overheard was a resident apologizing to an employee for having them repeating an answer to a question. The employee said there was no need to apologize, she was there to help as much as possible.

Kindness is important to health and well-being. It helps to improve confidence in depressed residents.
